Recently we (Nikon) had a sales meeting in Napa, California. Although we get a lot of work accomplished at these meetings we also get some time to have some fun as well. With the D90 being the new, cool camera for us (along with the really cool S60 and P6000) we headed out for a day for winery tours and photo opportunities. We visited Markham, Raymond, Beringer and Rubicon wineries, each having a very different look and feel. I didn’t get to shoot as much as I would have liked to because I was somewhat responsible for how things went during this day but I did manage to make some images that I liked enough to write this post...
I’ll start off with the group shot of everyone at the sales meeting. I’m not actually in this picture because I was the lucky one to shoot it! I used to shoot a lot of group photos at Disney many years ago and for some reason I just fell into this job for every meeting it seems. There is a picture of me on the ladder that someone is supposed to send so I’ll add it later when I get it. This was shot with a D90 and a 16-85mm DX lens... I love that lens!
Like my previous post with the NY Drug Store images I started really getting into shooting some high-contrast, grainy-looking, black and white images. So, here are some black and whites straight out of my D90 of the various vineyards that we visited that day.
The real highlight of the week was a presentation that we had during dinner at the Markham Vineyards from Rolling Stone Magazine’s first staff photographer, Baron Wolman. Check out his site and you will no doubt recognize his photographs immediately. He has been a Nikon shooter from the very beginning and is a really nice guy. I showed up early and set up a sound system and a screen for him and got to talk to him for a bit before everyone else arrived. I thought it was funny that he was actually intimidated by speaking to an entire Nikon group!
His presentation was captivating and extremely funny as well. He’s a great speaker and a great photographer. He has seen it all in rock and roll. He saw it all happen first! Just amazing. So, click on his link above and take a look...
Until next time...
