Reno Air Races - PRS Day 1
Thursday, June 19, 2008
Well, more airplanes this week. This time it’s on the other side of the country in Reno, Nevada at the Reno Air Races Pylon Racing Seminar. This is an event that is held prior to the full Reno Air Races that take place in September. This is primarily for pilots to be trained in how to fly the course and keep the races safe. I have never been here before and I have learned a lot about this today. They have different classes of planes that race and different courses that they fly as well. This event gets about 50 photographers to practice as well and the full air races in September get about 500 photographers from all around the world.
So, we’ve had some great access today to spend some time on different parts of the course. I’ll post more details tomorrow but I thought I’d show you some of my successful images for the day... believe me when I say that there were many unsuccessful images as well! I think I shot about 2000 pictures just today alone! I’m not sure how many are keepers since I’ll need some time to edit but these stood out first so enjoy...
They were all taken with either a D300 and 70-300mm VR lens or a D3 and a 500mm VR lens. I figured out quickly that a monopod on the 500mm lens didn’t really work in this environment so my arm will be tired from hand-holding that all day...
