JFK - Airplanes
Monday, June 9, 2008
As most of you know, I really love aircraft and any opportunity I have to photograph them is a wonderful thing! So, while staying at a hotel in the landing path of JFK Airport I had to take advantage of some great planes and some great light. Instead of poking around with emails in my hotel room I took 45 minutes to enjoy the last good light of the day and brought my D3 and 70-300mm VR lens out to the parking lot across the street and practiced following some jets in as they land. My two favorites were this big Japan Airlines 747 which is always an impressive sight and what looks like a new version of a Boeing 757 silhouetted against the sun with some great vapor trails...
So, while we are on the subject of airplanes, next week I’ll be at the Reno Air Race Rookie School where pilots qualify for the full Reno Air Races in September. NPS has never done this event and it sounds like we will have a good number Nikon shooters there to assist with some technical info as well as loaner gear. With any luck I’ll get to shoot from the pylons on the race course... we’ll see!
Until next time...
