Glacier Bay
Tuesday, September 16, 2008
We were getting really concerned about heading into Glacier Bay because it was completely fogged in! Then, as we got closer to the glaciers the fog lifted and we got a really great view. This day was the main reason why we got an outside stateroom with a balcony. To stand on your balcony and look at huge wall of ice just a short distance away was pretty incredible. As we were finishing up in Glacier Bay we saw another Holland America ship, the Volendam, cruising past us towards the glaciers. It’s a much smaller ship than the Westerdam which is what we were sailed on but when you look at how big the mountains and the glaciers are in comparison to the ship it’s really pretty incredible
The image above gives you a good perspective of how close the ship is to the glacier. We heard some ice cracking and saw some minor calving which was pretty cool. These things are loud when they start to crack!
So, I apologize for the lack of posts this week. There really is no decent internet service on the boat. It’s really expensive. Then every time we got to one of the ports we got off the ship and did stuff and then we got back on and the boat sailed immediately. So, the whole image editing and post writing thing was just difficult to keep up with. I have a few more entries from this trip to share this week so check back for more stuff...
Thanks for stopping by....
