Maitland Art Center

This week I’m in Central Florida for some various meetings and I decided to stop by a favorite shooting spot of mine. I was out at my school (Southeast Center for Photographic Studies) in Daytona today and I had the old creative juices flowing again. I was thinking of how I hadn’t shot anything last night while I was at Downtown Disney for a very lack-luster St. Patrick’s Day so I stopped by Maitland, Florida and the Maitland Arts Center on my way back from a day trip to Daytona. The light was happening and I wanted to just relax a bit and shoot some pictures. I had done an entire semester of 4x5 Black and White photography at this location while in school. I had with me a D90 and a 16-85mm VR lens and set out to do a bit of reminiscing and try to re-create some of my 4x5 portfolio.
I have to say that the light was just right and I spent about an hour there. I found some of the same subjects I had labored over fifteen years ago which was pretty amazing. I set the D90 to a high ISO, high contrast black and white mode and had a great time. It is amazing what you can get straight out of the camera these days. Much easier than manually processing 4x5 inch sheets of black and white T-Max 100 film in my apartment back then. I have already downloaded, edited and did some minor cropping to a series of images and have them in an online gallery for all of you to check out. Pretty amazing...
So, if you are ever in the Orlando area and want a great place to explore visit the Maitland Art Center... it’s a pretty fascinating place!
Off to visit Kelby Media tomorrow... stay tuned!
Okay... so a quick update. I learned something new from my good friend Mark Suban about doing screen grabs on a Mac. When I was at the Maitland Art Center I had the GP-1 GPS unit attached to my camera so I thought I’d show you where this place is in the Orlando area as well as where I took all of the pictures here as well. Pretty cool stuff. Gotta love technology!
This is how many pictures I took in an hour! It sort of puts it all in perspective... as you can see it’s not a very big place. But, there certainly are a lot of subjects to have fun with!
